Dame Robin Adair White DNZM
(1946 - )
Born in Te Puke and of Maori and Pakeha descent, highly celebrated White is one of New Zealand’s most prominent painters and printmakers. Educated at the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland in the late 1960s, she was mentored by Colin McCahon, holding her first solo show in 1970 and working full time as an artist from 1972.
White moved to Kiribati with her family in 1982 to work with the Ba’Hai community, returning in 1999. She has continued to work with weavers and artists from around the Pacific and been a vocal champion of Pacifika culture.
White has represented New Zealand at numerous international exhibitions and her iconic works are held in all major collections nationwide.
