Rob McLeod (1948 –)
Born in Scotland, Rob McLeod immigrated to New Zealand in the 1972. He is a graduate of Glasgow Art School. For many years he has lived in Wellington and taught art at Wellington High School.
His very colourful images are full of know characters from Batman to the Marx Brothers. References are made to contemporary life with other forms and the clothing of his characters. McLeod pays homage to his Scottish heritage through regularly using distorted tartan patterns.
He exhibits widely in Australia and New Zealand.
SoFA Series
The SoFA Print Project was organised by Professor Simon Ogden as a fundraiser in 2004. A portfolio of 24 prints by various artists associated with the Ilam School of Fine Arts was created. The sale of these raised $148,000.
The contributing artists were Don Binney, Joanna Braithwaite, L Budd, Barry Cleavin, Shane Cotton, Denise Copland, Bill Culbert, Bing Dawe, Neil Dawson, Tony de Lautour, Jeremy Diggle, Andrew Drummond, Jason Greig, Fiona Gunn, Bill Hammond, Rob McLeod, Julia Morison, Simon Ogden, Don Peebles, Seraphine Pick, Peter Robinson, Carole Shepheard, Cathryn Shine, Philip Trusttum.
A Complete set of prints was gifted to Victoria and Albert Museum, London, by Professor Simon Ogden.
