John T Horton (1944-)
John Horton was
born in England. A serious accident at a young age led his parents to introduce him to art and music to protect him from further injury. At 16 he joined the Royal Navy and served in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans. He studied art and apprenticed as a designer and architectural artist in the “shopfitting” trade.
Working mainly in oils and specialising in landscapes and Marine subjects, Horton has received numerous NZ awards and the Australia Art Awards twice. He uses the combination of warm and cool colours to enhance depth and lighting effect in his painting.
