Marilynn Webb ONZM (1937 – 2021)
Acclaimed New Zealand artist Marilyn Webb received an ONZM in 2000 for her contributions to Māori art and to art education. She is both Māori and pakeha, descending from Ngāpuhi and Te Roroa. Webb is best known for her printmaking and pastel works. These can be found in significant collections throughout New Zealand. For many years she lectured at Dunedin School of Art and was made an emeritus principal lecturer in 2004.
Webb’s art was political. She used it to express her concerns with government policy, particularly policy that impacted both the environment and Māori culture.
