Margaret Hudson-Ware (Dacre)
1938 -2017
Born in Christchurch , Margaret Hudson-Ware was well known in the community.
She was a graduate of Ilam School of Fine Arts at Canterbury University. From there she went on to teach at many schools including Taumarunui High, Cottesmore College, St Margaret’s College, Christchurch Girls’ High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School and Cashmere High School. Later she also lectured at Christchurch Teacher’s Training College.
Hudson-Ware was a petite, deeply religious and also a feminist, all of which are reflected in her work.
The highlight of her career was being asked to complete a series of works titled ‘Refugees’ which was hung as part of the opening exhibition of the new Christchurch Art Gallery in 2003.
