Alexis Neil

In 1997 Alexis Neal graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Post Graduate Diploma. She then went on to further study in London completing a master’s degree in Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Fine Arts. While there she was also able to work in summer schools as a teaching assistant in etching.

On her return to New Zealand her professional practice has developed primarily identifying issues of cultural identity while referring to the duality artifacts in terms of personal adornment and material culture. Recent work is interdisciplinary combining print, weaving  and installation to address tikanga Maori traditions within a contemporary context.
