Denys Watkins studied at the School of Design, Wellington Polytechnic (1962 – 64), the Central School of Art, London in 1967 and the Royal College of Art, London (1968 -67). He has received various awards and scholarships and has had residencies in Canberra and India.
His significant career has spanned the last 5 decades. His work is recognisable for the wonderful intensity of layered colour, the texture and the forms which encompass his unique visual language.
Watkins was a senior lecturer at Elam School of Fine Arts Auckland from 1980 – 2011.
