John Loxton
1903 – 1969
John Loxton was an Australian landscape artist. He was born in Adelaide in 1903 and later moved to Melbourne to study at Swinburne Technical College, and following this at the art school of the Australian National Gallery.
His first travel to New Zealand was in 1946. He enjoyed the contrast of scenery to Australia and went on to have several trips to New Zealand, completing and selling many landscape work s from different parts of the country.
Loxton also undertook travel to Europe and painted there too. He preferred to always work from life using traditional techniques and did not embrace any of the Modernist trends that were current during his lifetime.
