Rosella Namok
1979 –
Rosella Namok is an indigenous Australian artist from the Lockhart River region in Queensland. She studied art at high school and printmaking and other art techniques through courses held in her local community. From these a group of young indigenous artists including Rosella formed a collective known as the Lockhart River Gang.
Rosella paints the stories of her life in this isolated community, these included the traditional past down stories from the elder women around her.
Her Grandmother taught her to draw in the sand with her fingers and she incorporates this technique using paint on canvas to give her work vibrancy and perhaps a more contemporary style.
Namok's work is highly regarded and held in significant collections in Australia.
