Els (Elisabeth Johanna) Noordhof (1924 - 2013)
Born in Bloemendaal, Holland, Noordhof graduated from the Rijksmuseum Academy with a Master of Fine Arts in 1945 despite the difficulties of living in a Nazi-occupied territory.
Arriving in New Zealand in 1966 she taught at Otago Polytechnic and became an influential figure in the Dunedin art scene gaining national recognition as an illustrator and, particularly, for her portraiture.
