Mabel Hill (1872 - 1956) is known for her landscapes, portraits, and floral still lifes.
She taught at the Wellington School of Design, where she was greatly influenced by her colleague Scot J. M. Nairn, whose knowledge of contemporary art movements in Europe inspired her.
Between 1926 and the outbreak of the Second World War she travelled extensively, taking every opportunity to paint in plein air.
