Jan Chaffey
After graduating in Fine Arts from the University of Canterbury in the 1950’s Chaffey was one of a new generation of artists to graduate with a strong interest in abstraction. Her contemporaries included such names as Trevor Moffitt, Alan Pearson and Pat Hanly.
Chaffey went on to combine her art practice with an academic career in Botany and Landscape design, which even included set design, working for the New Zealand Players Theatre Trust.
She also worked at the Botany Division DSIR Lincoln and later tutored in the School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University.
Chaffey’s passion for and inspiration from our natural environment is evident in her works, commonly featuring her home environment of Banks Peninsula.
