Kurun Warun
1966 –
Kurun Warun is from the Gunditjmara region in South Western Victoria.
Kurun paintings are ‘stories’ or ‘Dreamings’ that relate to his ancestors and the Guditjmara tribal homelands. He uses traditional Guditjmara symbols with the permission of his tribal elders.
In more recent work his focus has been on water, the flowing rivers, the stones, eels and the water beneath the surface of the earth. These works are more abstracted and have really strong compositions.
His work is held in major Australian collections.
