Mark Lander (1955 –)
Mark Lander's creative journey began with his fascination with early New Zealand watercolour painting. His study of this, the artists and the technique, lead him to an interest in wanting to create contemporary large scale paper works. Paper to do these works was limited so he taught himself how to make paper and built a Hollander paper making machine which he set up in his Amberly studio.
In 2000 he had the opportunity to teach paper making overseas and as part of this he developed a smaller portable machine known as the Critter, which he could transport in a
suitcase. These are now exported to developing countries and community art groups.
