Tatyanna Meharry’s grandmother was Doris Lusk, one of New Zealand’s pioneer potters, a landscape painter and life drawing teacher. She was a mentor to Tatyanna’s during her childhood. Lusk’s influence and being constantly surrounded by creativity from such a young age played a pivotal role in Tayanna’s artistic development .
“While I’ve been working in the creative industry for as long as I can remember, it wasn’t until about 2006 that I started experimenting with pottery. Years after my grandmother passed, I felt an urge to give it a go and enrolled in a series of night classes in Christchurch and I basically became addicted to the craft from that moment on”.
Meharry is a ceramist who works from her studio in Christchurch. She is also one of the leading ceramic teachers in New Zealand. Meharry’s work is characterised by her unique vision , her sense of place and her underlying humour .She has won many awards including the Supreme Award at the World of Wearable Arts.
